When to Choose a CNC Prototype
CNC machining is a strong option when the prototype must be tested in a specific engineering material, hold machined features, accept production fasteners, or represent the final surface condition. It is commonly used for design validation, fit checks, functional testing, investor samples, test fixtures, and pre-production builds.

CNC Machining vs. 3D Printing
3D printing can be efficient for complex shapes and early form studies. CNC machining is often preferred when material properties, tight interfaces, threaded features, flat sealing faces, or a production-like finish are more important. Some projects use both: printed parts for early geometry checks and machined parts for functional validation.
Prototype DFM Review

If the production material is expensive or difficult to machine, an alternative prototype material can be quoted for comparison, but substitutions are never made without approval.

The inspection plan should match what the prototype is intended to prove. A fit-check part may need only several critical dimensions, while a validation build may need a full dimensional report, material documentation, or first-article record. Defining this before quotation avoids paying for data that does not support the test.
From First Part to Pilot Batch
